About DINAMICITY
DynamiCity is a Horizon Europe project that promotes walking, cycling and micro-mobility as key tools to improve public health, support cancer prevention and survivorship, and make European cities cleaner, healthier and better connected.
The project starts from the idea that urban mobility is not only a transport issue, but also a public health, climate and urban planning priority. By encouraging active travel and safer mobility environments, DynamiCity aims to help people integrate healthier habits into their daily lives while supporting cities in their transition towards climate neutrality.
To achieve this, the project will develop and test human-centred interventions across 12 living labs, including six net-zero cities. These interventions will address five interconnected levels: individual behaviour, community engagement, digital tools, infrastructure and natural environment, and policy. The project aims to increase walking and cycling, reduce environmental exposure and emissions, and strengthen cooperation between the health and transport sectors.
Goals And Objectives
DynamiCity’s overall goal is to place active mobility at the centre of integrated health, transport and climate strategies. The project will:
- promote walking, cycling and micro-mobility as part of cancer prevention and survivorship pathways;
- support cities in designing and implementing active mobility interventions adapted to local contexts;
- improve the safety, accessibility and attractiveness of active travel;
- use behavioural and digital tools to encourage healthier mobility choices;
- evaluate the health, environmental, safety, economic and equity impacts of the interventions;
- foster stronger collaboration between health, transport, urban planning and climate stakeholders;
- contribute to EU-level guidance on active mobility and cancer prevention.
Through these activities, DynamiCity will support wider European priorities, including Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Cities Mission, the Cancer Mission and the EU Cycling Declaration.
Living Labs and Demonstration Activities
DynamiCity will work through 12 living labs across Europe, bringing together cities with different mobility systems, urban contexts and public health needs. The living labs will serve as testing grounds for active and micro-mobility interventions, allowing the project to assess what works, under which conditions, and for whom.
The project will focus on both lead and follower cities, combining implementation, evaluation and knowledge transfer. Twinning activities will also help extend the project’s results beyond the initial demonstrator cities, supporting mutual learning and replication across Europe.
By the end of the project, DynamiCity aims to support participating cities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing walking and cycling in selected demonstrator areas.
Our Contribution
As a project partner, EUREGHA will bring the perspective of regional and local health authorities into DynamiCity, helping to connect the project’s mobility, health and policy dimensions.
EUREGHA will support stakeholder engagement, knowledge exchange and dissemination activities, ensuring that the needs and experiences of regional and local health systems are reflected in the project’s outputs. Through its European network, EUREGHA will contribute to strengthening dialogue between health authorities, cities, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders.
EUREGHA will also help promote the uptake and transferability of DynamiCity results, supporting the connection between project outcomes and wider European health priorities. Its role will be particularly important in bridging the gap between evidence, policy and regional practice, and in ensuring that active mobility is recognised as a relevant component of prevention-oriented and people-centred health systems.
The proposal identifies EUREGHA as an EU network of regional health authorities and highlights its role in connecting project work with regional and local health stakeholders, including through its network and policy engagement activities.
Work Packages and Key Activities
DynamiCity is structured around seven work packages covering the full project cycle, from research and co-design to implementation, evaluation, policy uptake and communication.
The project activities include:
- understanding local transport ecosystems and barriers to walking and cycling;
- co-designing multi-level interventions with local stakeholders and communities;
- implementing active and micro-mobility solutions in the living labs;
- evaluating the effects of the interventions on mobility behaviour, health, wellbeing, emissions, safety and equity;
- strengthening collaboration between health and transport policy communities;
- developing guidance, training and policy outputs to support wider uptake;
- disseminating results and promoting cross-European learning.
This structure will allow DynamiCity to generate practical evidence on how active mobility can contribute to healthier lifestyles, cancer prevention and more sustainable urban environments.
