On 6 May 2026, more than 30 partners and stakeholders came together in Brussels for the fourth in-person workshop of the Pact for Skills Large-Scale Partnership (LSP) for the Health Ecosystem, organised in the framework of the BeWell project. Hosted at the Office of the Northern Ireland Executive, the workshop focused on strengthening collaboration, sustainability, and workforce transformation for Europe’s future health ecosystem.
Opening remarks and project achievements
Opening the workshop, Michele Calabrò (EUREGHA) and Federica Margheri (EHMA) highlighted the evolution of the Large-Scale Partnership into a collaborative platform supporting policy exchange, stakeholder engagement, and skills development across Europe. They stressed the importance of ensuring continuity beyond the formal duration of the BeWell project and maintaining cooperation under the Pact for Skills framework.
Discussions focused on the need to move from fragmented training initiatives towards coordinated lifelong learning pathways embedded within healthcare systems and organisational practices. Key outputs presented included the BeWell Skills Strategy, skills intelligence activities, competence matrices, multilingual MOOCs, and training modules for healthcare professionals.
Breakout discussions on sustainability and workforce transformation
Interactive breakout discussions focused on the sustainability and future exploitation of BeWell’s results. Participants reflected on how project outputs could be integrated into healthcare systems, education pathways, and workforce development strategies at European, national, regional, and organisational levels.
Across discussions, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between healthcare providers, universities, policymakers, regional authorities, and industry actors. Particular attention was given to lifelong learning, continuous professional development, organisational readiness, and the need to align workforce policies with rapidly evolving healthcare and technological realities. Participants also emphasized that the challenge for European healthcare systems is no longer simply identifying which skills are needed, but rather building practical, scalable, and sustainable pathways to effectively develop and implement them across the workforce.
Showcasing synergies across European initiatives
The workshop also featured presentations from complementary European initiatives contributing to healthcare workforce transformation and innovation. These included the EUVECA project on vocational excellence in healthcare, the ProMIS digital upskilling platform developed within the Italian PNRR framework, and the BRIGHTskills project focused on workforce preparedness and skills intelligence within the European health industry ecosystem.
Additional contributions highlighted initiatives promoting interdisciplinary cooperation, precision medicine, digital health competencies, and innovation uptake.
Conclusions and next steps
The workshop reaffirmed the importance of strong cooperation between European institutions, regional and local authorities, healthcare providers, academic institutions, industry actors, and civil society stakeholders in supporting long-term healthcare workforce transformation across Europe.
Discussions consistently highlighted the importance of translating strategies and competency frameworks into concrete implementation mechanisms capable of supporting resilient, future-ready, and people-centred healthcare systems. The event also reinforced the value of the BeWell partnership and the wider LSP Health Ecosystem as collaborative platforms for knowledge exchange, cross-project synergies, and long-term cooperation on skills, education, and workforce development.
