ONCODIR Consortium Meeting in Athens: Advancing the Next Phase of the Project

EUREGHA was pleased to take part in the ONCODIR consortium meeting, held in Athens on 5–6 February and kindly hosted by ICCS – National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

ONCODIR is an EU-funded project that aims to identify key risk factors associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) and to translate this knowledge into evidence-based and personalised prevention recommendations. By integrating multidisciplinary research methods and technologies — including health policy analytics, artificial intelligence and decision-support approaches — the project addresses major determinants of CRC prevention such as lifestyle, nutrition and economic factors, targeting citizens, clinicians and policymakers alike.

The Athens meeting provided an important opportunity for consortium partners to take stock of progress achieved so far and to align on the next phases of implementation. In particular, discussions focused on the forthcoming pilot activities in Greece,  Romania and  Lithuania, which will play a central role in testing and refining ONCODIR’s tools and recommendations in real-world settings.

Looking ahead, several key priorities were identified for the coming months — especially from EUREGHA’s perspective as a network of regional and local health authorities:

  • Supporting the uptake of ONCODIR results beyond the pilot regions, through targeted roundtable discussions with regional policy experts and policymakers, aimed at exploring pathways for integration into daily practice in other European contexts.

  • Strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange with sister projects within the Prevention and Early Detection – Implementation Research cluster, to foster synergies, avoid duplication, and maximise the policy relevance and impact of project outcomes.

The meeting reaffirmed the value of close collaboration across disciplines and regions to advance effective, evidence-based cancer prevention strategies at European level.

Stay tuned for further updates, and feel free to contact us to learn more about ONCODIR and upcoming activities.
