EUREGHA contributes to the European Commission’s consultation on the future of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)
As the European Commission gathers feedback to shape the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) beyond 2027, EUREGHA – the European Regional and Local Health Authorities – has submitted a coordinated contribution reflecting the views and needs of its members.
Grounded in exchanges with regions and local health authorities, EUREGHA’s response focuses on how EU investments can continue to strengthen health systems, promote equity, and support territorial development. It is accompanied by a communication summary capturing key ideas and recommendations shared by members across Europe.
What We Highlight
🔹 Health as a shared priority: Ensuring that health is considered across all EU investment tools—not only through dedicated programmes like EU4Health, but also within cohesion, recovery, and innovation policies.
🔹 Empowering Local and Regional Authorities (LRAs): Local and regional authorities are key actors in the delivery of health and care services. Their involvement in the design and implementation of EU funding should be further supported.
🔹 Maintaining territorial approaches: Programmes such as Cohesion Policy and Interreg remain essential to address diverse needs, reduce inequalities, and foster collaboration across borders.
🔹 Improving access and simplification: Making EU funding more accessible and responsive to smaller and resource-limited authorities helps unlock the full potential of regional innovation and service delivery.
🔹 Fostering cooperation and learning: Networks and partnerships between regions can help scale successful practices and enhance EU-level policymaking through better evidence and experience sharing.
As Secretariat to the Interregional Group on Health and Well-being and through our working groups and project involvement, EUREGHA will continue to support exchanges and bring regional insights into wider EU health and investment discussions. In line with our Manifesto for 2024 and beyond, we continue to advocate for a more strategic, inclusive, and health-sensitive approach to EU investment—one that enables real reform, sustainable impact, and lasting partnerships across all territories.
