EUREGHA joins ENKORE ECOHEALTHCARE consortium meeting to advance circular solutions in healthcare
EUREGHA recently participated in the consortium meeting of ENKORE ECOHEALTHCARE, a pioneering European initiative working to accelerate the transition towards circular, safe and sustainable eco-designed solutions for single-use medical and healthcare devices and packaging.
ENKORE brings together partners from across the healthcare, research and innovation ecosystem to rethink how medical products and packaging are designed, used and managed. By promoting circular approaches and environmentally sustainable practices, the project seeks to reduce waste, optimise resource use and contribute to greener healthcare systems — while fully safeguarding patient safety and quality of care.
The consortium meeting provided an opportunity to review progress and align on the next steps in the project’s implementation. A particular highlight was the visit organised by the host, the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, including its advanced simulation rooms dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals. The visit offered valuable insights into how innovation, training and sustainability can intersect within healthcare environments.
Within ENKORE, EUREGHA focuses on coordinating and supporting stakeholder engagement across governance levels. As a European network of regional and local health authorities, EUREGHA works to ensure that innovation is firmly grounded in real healthcare system needs and aligned with regional governance frameworks.
During the meeting, EUREGHA’s Director, Michele Calabrò, presented the initial plans for a coordinated stakeholder engagement strategy, including the launch of the ENKORE International Community. This initiative aims to connect regions, health authorities, innovators and other relevant stakeholders around circular solutions in healthcare, fostering peer exchange and facilitating the uptake of project results across territories.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration to enable systemic change towards more sustainable healthcare systems at European level.
Further updates on ENKORE and the upcoming International Community will follow. Stakeholders interested in engaging with the project are invited to get in touch to learn more about future activities and opportunities for collaboration.
