Reducing the environmental impact of the health sector has come to the heart of the discussion on the future of healthcare in Europe. Regional and local health authorities have a key role to play in the green transformative process. Their proximity to the healthcare facilities and providers enables them to have a deep understanding of the local needs and environmental challenges, placing themselves in a crucial position to make a direct impact on the health of citizens while preserving our planet. To build greener and more sustainable healthcare systems, it is important to promote open dialogue and common understanding on these issues on all levels of action, from the European to the regional and local one.
This event can be a perfect occasion to further foster a multi-level and constructive dialogue among EU institutions and stakeholders and exchange views on the challenges and opportunities for regional and local health authorities posed by such an important mission.
