On 4th March 2025, EUREGHA convened the first Cross-Border Healthcare Working Group meeting of the year, bringing together regional and local health authorities to discuss the most pressing challenges and priorities in cross-border healthcare cooperation across Europe.
The session focused on enhancing collaboration, identifying policy gaps, and strengthening healthcare access in border regions. Participants provided insights into their regional strategies, ongoing projects, and key policy initiatives. Discussions centered on:
🔹 Tackling health inequalities across borders, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.
🔹 Addressing workforce shortages by promoting regional cooperation on training, recruitment, and retention.
🔹 Improving patient mobility and regulatory frameworks to facilitate cross-border treatments and referrals.
🔹 Developing structured and systematic collaboration between border regions to ensure sustainable healthcare solutions.
🔹 Advancing digital health and interoperability, focusing on data sharing, e-health solutions, and AI-driven tools.
Additionally, participants discussed ongoing EU initiatives, including the CBI upcoming projects, which aims to develop a policy-support platform for regional policymakers, and updates from the European Commission (DG REGIO) on cross-border healthcare priorities and funding opportunities.
For 2025, the EUREGHA Cross-Border Healthcare Working Group will continue to monitor and advocate for policy solutions that enhance healthcare access and strengthen regional collaboration in the cross-border context.
